May 2025 Board Meeting Summary with Dr. Martin

  • Dr. Patrick Martin shared end-of-year reflections, recognizing the hard work of students, staff, and families throughout the 2024–2025 academic year.

  • Two Hewitt-Trussville High School students were honored as National Merit Finalists—a prestigious academic distinction.

  • The HTMS and HTHS Mountain Bike Teams were celebrated as back-to-back state champions, showcasing the district’s growing success in this sport.

  • Facility improvements at HTHS were noted, including a new beverage package and landscaping enhancements that will improve function.

  • HTHS Girls Basketball Coach Tonya Hunter was recognized for being named the TCS Assistant Athletic Director, highlighting her leadership on and off the court.

  • Under new business, the Board began review of the district’s salary schedules in preparation for the 2025–2026 school year.

  • Dr. Steve Ward was elected as the Board of Education President, and Mrs. Sherrye Tolbert was elected Vice President.

Looking ahead, AMSTI (Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative) was introduced as a new instructional focus beginning in the 2025–2026 academic year. This initiative will enhance hands-on, inquiry-based instruction in math and science across the district.

The next Board meeting is scheduled for June 9, 2025.
